Is it free?
The core features for opening and reading Markdown are free for personal and business use, including commercial use. Extra themes, custom theme editing, and background image import are available through the optional paid Customization Pass.
What is the Customization Pass?
Each purchase unlocks extra themes, custom theme editing, and background image import for 30 days. It does not auto-renew, and the core reading features remain free without it.
Where can I buy the Customization Pass?
You can buy it in the app. Open Simple MD Viewer, go to Settings > Entitlement, and select “Purchase.”
Does the add-on renew automatically?
No. It is not a subscription, and you are never charged automatically after it expires. Purchase it again only when you want to make further customizations.
What happens when the pass expires?
Your currently applied extra theme, saved custom themes, and imported background image remain available. You can still switch between included themes and adjust the background's visibility and effects. A new purchase is required only to switch to another extra theme, create or edit custom themes, or import a new background image.
Which files are supported?
Markdown files — mainly .md, plus .markdown, .mdown, .mkd, .mkdn, and .mdwn. Open them by double-clicking, dragging and dropping, or using the file picker.
How much Mermaid and math syntax is supported?
Diagrams are rendered with Mermaid, and math with KaTeX (a subset of LaTeX syntax). Supported syntax depends on the versions bundled with the app, so if a newer diagram type or notation does not render, update the app to the latest version.
Which OS is supported?
Simple MD Viewer currently supports Windows.
Can I install it from the command line?
Yes. Run the following command with winget, the package manager built into Windows. It installs the same official build distributed through Microsoft Store.

Is this a Markdown editor?
It is built for reading, reviewing, and printing Markdown. It complements your editor rather than replacing it.
Does the app collect or send my data?
No. The app does not send the contents of your files or your usage data to our servers. It also contains no ads, analytics, or telemetry.
